Youngstown Ohio One word... Incredible

Bob Dylan is one of the most amazing storytellers that I have ever heard. These albums continue to entrance me, enthral me, shake the tree of curiousity...Send me on a "fast flying ride on a tornado track" and shoot me back. They get down in there no doubt- down into the depths of your soul my friend. Take a listen.

Youngstown Ohio Can't Beat Bob

Where to start? There's so much in here that there's bound to be something you find interesting. The first disc has some great Dylan folk stuff, very reminiscent of his debut album and Freewheelin'. Highlights include one of my favorites, the mellow, contemplative piece "Let Me Die in My Footsteps". "Moonshiner" is harrowing, with a great, moving vocal performance by Bob. I dig the piano versions of "When the Ship Comes in" and "Times They Are A-Changing". And the poem to Woody Guthrie he reads at the end is amazing, especially after you begin to digest the words (isn't that so often the case with Dylan?). Overall, there'd be only one or two songs on this disc that I WOULDN'T recommend.

The second disc basically goes up to the Blood on the Tracks period. "Seven Curses" is a dark, bleak folk song. He has two of his most beautiful songs ever in "Mama, You Been On My Mind" and "Farewell, Angelina". Nary a miss through the middle disc. The version of "Idiot Wind" on this set is so solemn and sad, a perfect way to end the disc.

Disc three is the most hit and miss of the three. If you don't like his Christian music, then you aren't going to dig a lot of this stuff. However, the last four songs are classic, especially "Blind Willie McTell". It left me speechless, so much intensity bursting through.

Overall, definately worth your money if you're a Dylan fan. Get the essential albums first, and then get this and it makes a great comparison/companion. Highly recommended.
